Alexander Verbraeck got his PhD from Delft University in 1991. Until 1992 he also had his own software company, focusing on consultancy and software development for educational institutes. He worked as assistant professor in information systems until 1995, when he was appointed associate professor in the Systems Engineering group of the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) of TU Delft. Dr. Verbraeck is currently full professor and chair of the Systems Engineering research group (23 persons). He also chaired the Department of Information, Communication, and Systems (50 fte) of the TPM Faculty of TU Delft. He was the original author and program manager of the BETADE strategic research program of TU Delft (Building blocks for Effective Telematics based Application Development and Evaluation), which has been carried out by 16 young interdisciplinary researchers between 2000 and 2004. As of January 2002, Verbraeck has also been appointed part-time research professor at the R.H. Smith School of Business of the University of Maryland, USA. His research focuses on simulation modeling and programming, including distributed and collaborative simulation environments. He is a renowned researcher in this area and widely considered one of the current thought leaders in the field of simulation. |
